Dr. Sarah Balaster, a board-certified periodontist specializing in periodontology and implant surgery, brings a unique blend of artistry and scientific expertise to dentistry. With a background in fine arts, she approaches smile creation as a harmonious fusion of aesthetics and functionality, ensuring each smile is beautiful and healthy. Dr. Balaster prioritizes comprehensive patient care, addressing oral health issues and overall well-being.
She tailors personalized treatment plans that align with each patient’s needs and comfort levels, emphasizing patient empowerment through education and self-care. Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Balaster fosters a collaborative environment through her Hygiene Study Club, where dental professionals gather to enhance their knowledge and discuss innovative approaches to elevate patient care and dental health.
Dr. Balaster is an inspiring and demonstrated clinical leader. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and her certificate in Periodontics from the New York University College of Dentistry. Before that, she attained a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Fine Arts from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Her background in the visual arts and sciences enables her to work with patients to achieve an esthetic and healthy smile.
She strives to treat patients with minimally invasive surgical therapies, such as LANAP (laser periodontal therapy), minimally invasive gum grafting, and Laser Assisted Dental Implant placement. She has advanced training and is a certified instructor for the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry. She has also worked on developing and applying soft tissue (gum) grafting techniques to improve esthetics, function, and patient comfort. Dr. Balaster’s surgical techniques are evidence-based in biology and are tailored to each patient’s needs and unique situation.
She believes that both periodontal and dental implant treatment is not one-size-fits-all and that each patient should be thoroughly evaluated and diagnosed before selecting treatment and surgical technique. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is a minimally invasive treatment for periodontal disease that uses laser technology to remove diseased tissue and promote the regeneration of healthy gum tissue. This procedure is less painful and has a quicker recovery time compared to traditional gum surgery.
LANAP targets only the infected areas, preserving more healthy gum tissue and reducing the risk of further complications. It also helps stimulate bone growth and improve oral health by effectively eliminating the bacteria that cause periodontal disease.
The BLAST technique is a cutting-edge protocol designed to enhance dental implants’ success and longevity. This approach accelerates healing by stimulating collagen formation, reduces the risk of complications such as infection, and enhances implant integration into the bone. The BLAST protocol minimizes bleeding risks while decontaminating the implant site for optimal healing and improves overall patient outcomes. We also include an implant maintenance protocol to ensure the longevity of your investment in a healthy, functional smile.
By utilizing guided implant surgery, laser technology, surgical guides, CBCT scans, and 3D printers, BLAST creates a more precise and comfortable patient-friendly approach to implant surgery.
LAPIP (Laser-Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure) is a minimally invasive treatment to address failing dental implants affected by peri-implantitis. This procedure uses laser technology to remove infected tissue and bacteria around the implant without damaging the surrounding bone or healthy tissue.
By promoting the regeneration of bone and soft tissue, LAPIP helps to stabilize and save the failing implant. It offers a quicker recovery time and less discomfort than traditional surgical methods, improving patient outcomes and implant longevity.
Gum/soft tissue grafting is a surgical procedure to treat gum recession by replacing lost gum tissue. During the procedure, Dr. Balaser takes tissue from the roof of the mouth or from a tissue bank to cover the exposed roots of teeth affected by recession.
This helps to protect the roots from decay and sensitivity while improving the appearance of the gum line. Gum grafting is often recommended to prevent gum recession and enhance oral health.
Air polishing is a dental procedure that combines air, water, and fine powder particles to remove plaque, stains, and biofilm from teeth. This method is gentler than traditional scaling and polishing techniques, making it ideal for anxious patients who may find dental cleanings uncomfortable or stressful.
The procedure is quick and efficient, reducing the overall time spent in the dental chair and minimizing discomfort. The sensation of air polishing is often described as less invasive, helping to alleviate anxiety and promote a more relaxed dental experience for nervous patients.
